orange essential oil, citrus sinensis

sweet orange oil is one of the most popular essential oils because of it's pleasant and versatile scent but also because of it's reputed therapeutic properties and use as a natural flavouring. in aromatherapy, sweet orange, like many citrus oils, is said to have a particular affinity for the digestive and nervous systems, having a relaxing effect on both. it is recommended for symptoms of stress, nervous tension, nervousness and sleep disorders.
topically sweet orange is reported to be beneficial for soothing dry, irritated or acne prone skin and is said to have regenerative properties helping to restore aged or rough and calloused skin. it is also considered to be useful in stimulating lymphatic circulation and as such will often be used in blends for managing cellulite.
